June 2017

Our Sports Law Group is proud to be a sponsor of the 9th Annual Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival. This year’s festival is highlighted by four films that show how soccer can break through boundaries – geographical, psychological, political, and fanatical.

From the outsized story of Iceland’s underdog rise to glory to the transformation of the French national team over the past few decades, from a dark comedy about an Israeli-Palestinian resolution to a hilarious pilgrimage to watch Celtic play in Glasgow, the films show how the game affects us every day, in ways both big and small.

The festival runs from Tuesday, June 6, through Friday, June 9, at midtown Manhattan’s Scandinavia House. Herrick is sponsoring the closing night festivities, alongside our client Venezia FC, fresh off their remarkable promotion to Italy’s Serie B, and Einstok Beer, a fantastic Icelandic beer brewed just 60 miles from the Arctic Circle!

Inside a Volcano: The rise of Icelandic football
This is the unbelievable story of the golden generation of Icelandic football. An up close and personal insight into a team that made the world take notice by becoming the smallest nation ever to reach a major final in the biggest sport in the world.

The 90 Minute War
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has lasted 100 years. 100 years of war, bloodshed, bitterness, suffering. 100 years of stalemate, intransigence and failed peace deals. And now, it’s all over! They’ve finally found the solution: A game of soccer. The winner gets to stay. The loser leaves forever. And no whining.

Les Bleus: Another History of France: 1996-2016
The French national team has experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows over the past 20 years, a reality reflected in the larger nation as a whole.

Celtic Soul
Celtic Soul follows Canadian actor and funny man Jay Baruchel on an epic road trip through Canada, Ireland and Scotland with his new friend, well-known Irish soccer journalist Eoin O’Callaghan. It’s a story that spans 200 years of colorful history and that will take the duo eastward from Montreal to

Westport, Ireland – where Jay’s ancestors set sail for Canada, like so many others – and finally Glasgow, where Jay will fulfill a lifelong dream: to watch a match at Celtic Park, one of the wildest and most hallowed grounds in world football.
