Irwin Kishner, co-chair of Herrick's Sports Law Group, was quoted in Axios discussing FIFA's recent announcement of the cities hosting the 2026 World Cup games.

Kishner explained, "There's a lot of politics in these decisions, it's not always a sure thing as people are led to believe," noting that FIFA considers each city's venue, hotel capacity, fan attraction and transportation. The article stated that Kishner "considered whether the city's incentive package played a role in the decision. The Denver Sports Commission's executive director told the AP it would cost between $40 million and $45 million in private money to host Cup games."

The FIFA World Cup tournament takes place every four years and that the upcoming 2026 games will be played in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. The article noted that 48 national teams will compete, expanded from the 32 teams of previous years.
