What was it about Herrick that enticed you to join the firm?

Herrick’s reputation for being one of the top land use & zoning groups in the city, combined with its complex real estate work and diverse client base, made it an obvious choice for me. I have worked in several mid-sized New York City firms during my career, and most recently I was working at a small land use firm where I felt there was more I could be doing and have access to professionally. When I had my first meeting with Herrick, it became clear that the firm had the depth of multiple legal disciplines, the experience and the history to support a quality work product typically found in larger law firms. Often my development clients require litigation, tax and transactional services to support their projects through the land use process. This full range of legal services helps me to work with clients I wouldn’t have been able to at my previous firm.

How is Herrick supporting you in your professional growth and development?

I’m consistently impressed by how the Real Estate Department functions on an especially cohesive and collaborative basis. Herrick’s Land Use & Zoning Group is an integral part of the larger department and is a true value-add to clients throughout the real estate deal cycle. It’s a special practice to be a part of at Herrick because we partner with so many attorneys and are really able to function as problem-solvers for our clients.

As a land use planner and non-lawyer, I bring a unique perspective to the table when working with real estate development clients. By collaborating on many different deal types and incorporating my knowledge on the regulatory and zoning aspects of deals, the Herrick real estate partners provide me with a wide exposure to multiple types of clients and complex real estate work which supports my professional growth.

What is next for you and your practice?

I think a lot of people are waiting to see where the NYC real estate market will land both due to the length of the pandemic and because of the new City administration taking over in January of 2022. Once there is a return to some level of normalcy and predictability in City government policies and practice, developers and investors who might have been holding out, uncertain of the new administration, will start to act on the opportunities that are available. And when that happens, the Land Use Group and I will be very busy.
