Bridge-the-Gap II: Ethics and Skills for Newly Admitted New York Attorneys
Herrick associate Meaghan Roe served as faculty for the CLE course "Bridge-the-Gap II: Ethics and Skills for Newly Admitted New York Attorneys 2023," from the Practising Law Institute ("PLI"). Meaghan spoke on two panels, titled "Ethical Implications of Social Media Use for Lawyers” and “Cybersecurity Ethics for New Lawyers.”
Panelists discussed ways to avoid the risks of social media with respect to lawyers’ professional obligations to clients and ways for attorneys in their first years of practice to comply with cybersecurity ethics disciplinary requirements. Additional topics covered included:
- How to recognize evidence for social media with respect to lawyers’ professional relations to courts
- Methods of managing user-generated content including the fiduciary obligations of lawyers
- The key objectives of cybersecurity ethics and the types of safeguards used in cybersecurity risk management
- How to recognize the ethical risks of suspicious behavior or unverified media content
