JEMB Demanding Payment From Tenants at Luxe Herald Towers
Litigation partner, Andrew J. Wagner, was quoted in a Crain's New York Business article discussing how a New York landlord is suing delinquent tenants for back rent, according to several lawsuits filed in Manhattan Supreme Court this week, finding opportunity in a loophole in tenant protection laws.
While landlords in New York City are currently barred from evicting or harassing tenants who are not paying rent because of the pandemic, they are allowed to make demands for their money.
Andrew is quoited as saying "If the landlord is commencing an action to collect rent, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. The question is whether you should do it even if you can."
