Irwin Kishner, co-chair of Herrick's Sports Law Group, was quoted in the Baltimore Sun regarding the upcoming ballot measure in Maryland, which asks whether voters want "to authorize sports and events betting for the primary purpose of raising revenue for education.” If the ballot is approved, the General Assembly will fill in critical details regarding betting, including which entities would offer sports wagering and how the proceeds will be used. In addition, the state may permit wagering on both professional and college games.

Sports betting could also be extended to stadiums within the state. The article notes that spokespeople for various professional teams declined to comment, however, Washington’s Capital One Arena already permits wagering in a designated area.

“I actually foresee a day when you’ll have in-stadium wagering at every seat,” said Kishner. “You’ll certainly have [betting] areas at stadiums.”
