Mayor Bill de Blasio is pursuing a proposal that would severely limit hotel construction throughout New York City. If the City moves forward with the proposed change to the Zoning Resolution, hotels will no longer be allowed "as-of-right," and instead, any new hotel will be required to obtain a Special Permit.

Partner and chair of our Land Use and Zoning practice, Mitch Korbey is quoted in The Real Deal saying, "This is not something that belongs on the agenda for recovery... To limit hotels citywide is an improper use of the zoning resolution." He added, "Once a zoning mechanism like this is put on the books, it will be extraordinarily difficult to get it off."
