How Can I Figure Out What Repairs a Building Might Need in the Future?

Andrew B. Freedland was quoted in The New York Times in the "Ask Real Estate" advice column. In this column, a reader asks if they are able to find out what problems the board knows about the building or the unit before agreeing to buy an apartment. The buyer's attorney will do the due diligence on the property, including asking for minutes from all of the building's board meetings for the past two years. Andrew notes that not all boards keep thorough minutes and "sometimes you don't have much detail... sometimes you have to ask questions."
