2022 Chambers USA Recognizes Herrick’s Real Estate, Litigation, Restructuring and Sports Practices and Lawyers for Excellence

We are proud to announce that Chambers USA has ranked Herrick’s real estate, commercial litigation, real estate litigation, sports law and zoning/land use practices for distinguished client service. Chambers USA also recognized six Herrick attorneys as leading practitioners in the law.

Real Estate

For the 16th year in a row, Herrick’s Real Estate Department was ranked as one of New York’s top real estate law practices. Chambers USA stated that Herrick is an "established real estate group, assisting clients with the financing and execution of complex acquisitions and developments" and that Herrick "offers a strong network of governmental and agency contacts as well as public sector experience."

The Land Use & Zoning Group was also recognized for excellence in serving New York clients, with Chambers USA writing that the Herrick team is "adept at securing land use and zoning permits for real estate owners and developers."

Belinda Schwartz and Mitchell Korbey were again ranked as leading individuals for New York Real Estate and New York Zoning & Land Use, respectively. Chambers USA wrote that Belinda "demonstrates great experience across a range of real estate issues, and frequently handles acquisition, development and leasing matters concerning a wide variety of asset classes." A client reported, "Belinda is the ultimate deal-maker, a consummate professional and she understands how to play long-ball." Another interviewee praised, "Belinda is terrific, beyond responsive and extremely knowledgeable." On Belinda’s presence in the New York real estate industry, another interview reflected that "she continues to network on my behalf and introduce me to like-minded individuals that are complementary to my goals or enhance my level of knowledge." Chambers USA noted that Mitch "advises a diverse client roster on complex zoning projects including rezoning and matters relating to development." An interviewee described Mitch as "a great land use attorney with strong insights into the New York City development process," adding, "He has led us through complex issues successfully." Another client said, "Mitchell's knowledge of zoning code is impressive."

Litigation

For the 10th consecutive year, Herrick’s Litigation Department was ranked for excellence in New Jersey commercial litigation. Chambers USA commented that Herrick "handles a wide spectrum of civil litigation, including complex commercial disputes, real estate litigation and commercial foreclosures; [a]n impressive client roster includes high-profile players from a number of industries, such as financial institutions and food and beverage multinationals." A client reported, "They all provide exceptional service," adding, "They are always responsive, well prepared and both courteous and aggressive as necessary." Another client highlighted, "They are skilled litigators and have excellent attention to detail... They are thoughtful, strategic and very understanding of the business needs."

Herrick counsel Ronald Levine was specifically recognized as a leader in New Jersey commercial litigation. Chambers USA stated that Ron "has extensive experience in the handling of product liability class actions involving product recalls, the Food Safety Modernization Act and FDA regulations. He represents corporations from a variety of industries, with an emphasis on the food and beverage sector." A client commented, "Ron really knows his stuff. He brings both experience and a creative approach to each matter in which he has been involved and in addition, is a pleasure to work with." Another client noted, "He is a very strong class action lawyer." Another interview highlights, "He is very sensitive to reputational risks and impacts. He's extremely thoughtful and diligent."

Real Estate Litigation

Chambers USA recognized Herrick's Real Estate Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group as a leading practice in New York real estate litigation. Chambers USA highlighted that Herrick is "[h]ighly regarded in the New York real estate litigation space."

Herrick partner ​​​​​​Scott Mollen was recognized as a leader in New York real estate litigation. Chambers USA called Scott "a seasoned practitioner with notable experience in real estate disputes as part of a broader commercial real estate practice." One of Scott's clients described him as "[a]n amazing litigator and negotiator." Another client added, "He is very knowledgeable."

Restructuring

Sean O’Donnell, co-chair of Herrick's Restructuring & Finance Litigation Department, was ranked as a leading bankruptcy, restructuring and litigation attorney in New York. One of Sean's clients praised, "Sean is an incredible orator with the unique ability to speak persuasively about any topic. He's an excellent litigator." Another client described Sean as "smart, aggressive and strategic." Yet another interviewee highlighted, "He is an extraordinarily creative litigator. He has a strong commercial understanding, and is tempered and strategic."

Sports Law

For the ninth year running, Herrick’s Sports Law Group was recognized as a distinguished practice at the national level. Chambers USA stated that the team is "[r]ecognized for its work with some of the most storied names in American sports, but also home to an ever-expanding client roster of teams, leagues and investors." They highlighted that the Sports Law Group "[p]rovides counsel on complex disputes and daily advisory needs across a number of sports" and "[r]egularly advises on multimillion-dollar financing and refinancing deals" including "entertainment and intellectual property transactions." One client stated, "They have the ability to bring the experience and knowledge from several industries to our situations. They also offer timely responses."

Herrick's Executive Chairman and co-chair of the Sports Law Group, Irwin Kishner, was again ranked in excellence in sports law nationwide for his "extensive experience of handling large-scale corporate transactions in the sports space" and his "additional expertise in advising leagues, teams and media organizations on development and media rights agreements, among other issues." An interviewee stated, "Irwin is a knowledgeable and service-oriented attorney." Another client reflected, "He has extremely good judgment and he is very solid."
