2021 Chambers USA Recognizes Herrick’s Real Estate, Litigation and Sports Practices and Lawyers for Excellence
Chambers USA has once again ranked Herrick’s real estate, New Jersey litigation and sports law practices for excellence, in addition to naming five Herrick partners as leading individuals in these areas.
For the 15th consecutive year, Herrick’s Real Estate Department was ranked one of New York’s top real estate law practices. Chambers USA noted that Herrick is an "established real estate group, assisting clients with the financing and execution of complex acquisitions and developments." They noted that the team is "adept at securing land use and zoning permits for real estate owners and developers," and that the team "offers a strong network of governmental and agency contacts as well as public sector experience." One client commented that "[Herrick] lawyers are excellent and capable, and are very good at large institutional deals." Another added that "the team is very, very knowledgeable and hard-working and the lawyers are extremely responsive."
Two Herrick real estate partners were again recognized as leading practitioners in the field - Belinda Schwartz for New York Real Estate and Mitchell Korbey for Zoning & Land Use. Chambers USA noted that Belinda "demonstrates great experience across a range of real estate issues, and frequently handles acquisition, development and leasing matters concerning a wide variety of asset classes." One of Belinda's clients commended her "encyclopedic knowledge of New York real estate law." Chambers USA also noted that Mitch "advises a diverse client roster on complex zoning projects including rezoning and matters relating to development." One of Mitch's clients said, "He is one of the most effective land use counselors in the city and has vast knowledge of New York zoning resolutions."
For the ninth year in a row, Herrick’s Litigation Department was ranked for excellence in New Jersey commercial litigation. The team was noted for handling "a wide spectrum of civil litigation, including complex commercial disputes, real estate litigation and commercial foreclosures; [a]n impressive client roster includes high-profile players from a number of industries, such as financial institutions and food and beverage multinationals."
Ronald Levine was once again ranked for excellence in products liability. Chambers USA commended his "extensive experience in the handling of product liability class actions involving product recalls, the Food Safety Modernization Act and FDA regulations," noting that Ron "represents corporations from a variety of industries, with an emphasis on the food and beverage sector." Scott Mollen was ranked in Band 1 for real estate litigation. Chambers USA described him as "a seasoned practitioner with notable experience in real estate disputes as part of a broader commercial real estate practice." One of Scott's clients described him as a "strategic thinker who gets results for his clients." Another said, "He's one of the smartest real estate lawyers around - he has an incredibly wide range of knowledge."
For the eighth year and counting, Herrick’s Sports Law Group was once again ranked for national excellence by Chambers USA, noting Herrick's reputation from "its work with some of the most storied names in American sports, but also home to an ever-expanding client roster of teams, leagues and investors." They noted that the Sports Law Group "provides counsel on complex disputes and daily advisory needs across a number of sports," and "[r]egularly advises on multimillion-dollar financing and refinancing deals." One interviewee reported that "Herrick's contacts, relationships and ability to negotiate on a global basis have been of enormous value to us." Another stated that, "[th]ey offer fantastic client service, they are regularly available and when we need documents they turn them around quickly." Clients who have also worked with the team stated, "[w]e could not have been happier with the result."
Chambers USA also recognized Herrick's Executive Chairman and Co-Chair of the Sports Law Group, Irwin Kishner, for his "extensive experience of handling large-scale corporate transactions in the sports space." They also commented on his experience in "advising leagues, teams and media organizations on development and media rights agreements, among other issues." Interviewees stated that, "Irwin has been an outstanding adviser. He is very experienced and knowledgeable about sports law." Another noted, "He's given great legal advice on complex transactions and he is a great businessperson."
