Irwin Kishner, co-chair of Herrick's Sports Law Group, spoke to Law360 about the Qatari government's Friday decision to ban alcoholic beverage sales at the World Cup, despite FIFA already having a $75 million contract in place with an alcohol distributor.
The article highlighted that this decision was made just two days before the start of the World Cup. "It would be absolutely shocking to me that this was a last-minute about-face, or that there was no indication that this was going to happen," Irwin noted. "I just can't believe that very sophisticated parties who have sophisticated advisers could have been shocked by this."
