Can I Make My Neighbor Mow His Lawn?

Bruce A. Cholst, partner in Herrick's Litigation Department, was quoted in The New York Times in the "Ask Real Estate" advice column. In this column, a reader living in a single-family home in Queens wanted advice as to how to best deal with a challenge with his neighbor. This neighbor rarely mowed his lawn, and he felt the high grass could attract pests. Bruce advised that New York City rules require homeowners to keep open spaces "free from dirt, filth, garbage or other offensive materials," and a lawn that attracts vermin would violate that rule.
