Real Estate partner, Brett Gottlieb, was quoted in The Real Deal - The Daily Dirt discussing how New York Governor Kathy Hochul is navigating the New York State Legislature's resistance to relinquish control to local lawmakers in her efforts to alleviate the ongoing affordable-housing crises.

The article notes that in her executive budget, Governor Hochul has proposed the task of setting affordability levels in a new 421-a to the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, pending approval.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has expressed his support for Hochul's proposal. Brett noted to The Real Deal that the governor released a bare-bones proposal to serve as a starting point for developers, construction unions and tenant advocates. From there, they can figure out a policy they can live with.

"If she had put something out there in her proposals, she may have even been negotiating against herself," Brett explained.
