Computing Machines Creating Projectable Works: The Future of Copyright?
Herrick hosted the Copyright Society of the USA for a luncheon program about how new technologies push the boundaries of copyright law and how existing doctrines are stretched to encompass novel and unprecedented scenarios. Speakers discussed how the next frontier will involve works created directly by computers and the unclear copyright implications. Are these original and creative works made by a human author (and if so, who) or substantially by independent artificial intelligence? To what scope of protection are they entitled, if any?
