Business of Sports – Sports Fans Awaiting Refunds for Cancellation of Games
Crain's New York interviewed Daniel A. Etna, co-chair of Herrick's Sports Law Group, regarding potential refunds for ticket sales in light of game cancellations as the result of the spread of COVID-19. With the slow down in revenue generated from broadcasts, sponsorships and merchandise, revenue from ticket sales has become increasingly important. While teams are offering both refunds and credits, the loss of ticket sales has affected the bottom line, as Etna noted, "[t]icket sales are still a significant component of a team's budget, revenue and liquidity."
