Assistant Managing Attorney

Herrick, Feinstein LLP, a dynamic mid-sized law firm with offices in New York City and Newark, New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Managing Attorney to join the Firm’s fast-paced Managing Attorney’s team in New York. Candidates must possess the knowledge and skills listed below and be able to adhere to Firm policies regarding the protection of confidential data. The ideal candidate also thrives in a collaborative environment where attorneys and staff work together to move the firm forward.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review documents for conformity to court rules.
  • Work with attorneys and staff in all departments and offices to impart expert procedural advice and coordinate court-related services.
  • Draft, review and revise simple litigation documents for review by attorneys, such as Notices of Entry, Notices of Motion, Notices of Appeal, Notices of Appearance, Stipulations, and the like.
  • Conduct procedural research in all jurisdictions.
  • Perform electronic filing using state and federal electronic filing systems and update attorneys and staff on current electronic filing guidelines.
  • Selectively bill time for substantive legal drafting and research as directed by billing partners.
  • Prepare and distribute firmwide calendars and reminders, ensuring accuracy and consistency of the calendar entries.
  • Confer and negotiate with outside attorney services regarding court retrieval and service of papers.
  • Apply developing knowledge of Federal, New York and New Jersey State Court systems, in-house case management systems, and electronic filing systems.
  • Remain current in trends in the legal profession.
  • Assist with projects assigned by the General Counsel’s office.
  • Participate in projects that increase value to clients, attorneys, timekeepers, and the Firm.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Admission to New York and New Jersey state bars.
  • Knowledge of New York, New Jersey and Federal Court rules and procedures (expertise with New Jersey practice preferred).
  • Communicate effectively, written and orally, with attorneys, staff and court personnel.
  • Process electronic filing in various courts and docketing deadlines.
  • Perform legal research utilizing PACER, Bloomberg Law, Westlaw, NYSCEF, NJ eCourts, and other databases.
  • Draft and review basic litigation documents.
  • Travel to court occasionally to handle filings, retrievals and calendar appearances.

Prior managing attorney department preferred; experience as a court clerk/law clerk a plus.

SCHEDULE:  Monday-Friday

HOURS:  10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, and as needed

The range of base salary* the Firm reasonably expects to pay for this role is $140,000-$160,000. The actual base salary within the above range will depend on number of years out of law school, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Real Estate Co-Op/Condo Attorney

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise co-op and condominium boards on governance issues, fiduciary duties, and compliance with governing documents and applicable laws.
  • Draft and negotiate construction, vendor, and professional service contracts.
  • Assist with the refinancing of underlying mortgages and lines of credit transactions.
  • Review, revise, and amend governing documents including proprietary leases, bylaws, condominium declarations, and house rules.
  • Counsel clients on the preparation and conduct of annual and special shareholder/unit owner meetings, including election procedures and proxy matters.
  • Conduct annual and special meetings, including oversight of voting and reporting procedures.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory and compliance issues, including those related to the Business Corporation Law (BCL) and Condominium Act.
  • Assist in the review and negotiation of retail and commercial leases within co-op and condo buildings.
  • Handle cooperative and condominium closings and advise on related transactional matters.
  • Advise on trust transfers and review associated documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with partners and clients to ensure timely and accurate delivery of legal services.

The range of base salary* the Firm reasonably expects to pay for this role is $221,500-$295,000. The actual base salary within the above range will depend on number of years out of law school, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Staff Attorney

New York

Herrick, Feinstein LLP is seeking a skilled Staff Attorney with at least 5 years of landlord-tenant litigation experience to join our Litigation team. This role involves handling a high volume of routine and complex cases, including appearances in Housing Court and Supreme Court, client advisement, and motion practice. Experience with corporate governance, condo lien foreclosures, and general real estate litigation is a plus, but not required.

Applicants must be admitted in New York State.  Applicants must have a desire to work on lean teams; gain hands-on experience with client contact; and strategize on all aspects of a matter. 

Job Duties:

  • Manage and litigate a docket of residential and commercial landlord-tenant cases, including non-payment proceedings, holdovers, HP proceedings, and related housing disputes.
  • Appear in Housing Court and other relevant tribunals to represent firm clients.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery materials, settlement agreements, and legal memoranda.
  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic advice to clients on matters involving rent stabilization, regulatory compliance, and eviction proceedings.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, and internal teams to ensure effective case progression.
  • Stay current on changes in relevant laws, regulations, and court procedures.

The range of base salary* the Firm reasonably expects to pay for this role is $145,000 to $180,000. The actual base salary for this role within the above range will depend upon number of years out of law-school, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
