NYC Puts Development Plans Online for Public Review and Comment

February 2009Land Use Alert

Starting March 9, 2009, the Department of Buildings (DOB) will post to its website complete details of all approved applications for new building permits and major building alterations, including plans and additional development information. For the first time, this information will be available online by merely entering a block and lot number or building address.

Neighborhood organizations, politicians and abutting property owners will have access to technical information for each development site. They will also, according to the proposed policy, have a 30 day comment period. This could lead to numerous (and frivolous) complaints, requiring multiple explanations and resulting in delays.

While this new policy has some positive aspects, developers are justifiably concerned with the disclosure issues. Our land use team is uniquely qualified to help answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding the new policy. Please contact Mitch Korbey at 212-592-1483 or [email protected]

We are currently following up with the DOB on these issues and will provide you with more information as it becomes available. To read the press release issued by Mayor Bloomberg's office on February 2, click here.
