Biography

Andrew B. Levine is senior counsel in the Real Estate department, where he brings a dual perspective shaped by executive-level roles on both the legal and business sides of real estate finance. His career has included leadership positions as chief legal officer of a real estate investment management platform, managing director at a global investment bank, and partner in private practice. Andy has extensive experience with real estate finance, capital markets, acquisitions and distressed debt transactions, developed over multiple cycles, asset classes and risk profiles. Throughout his career, Andy has regularly advised institutional lenders, private credit lenders and alternative capital providers on complex real estate transactions, with a particular focus on loan structuring, originations and capital markets execution.

Andy is adept at negotiating and executing transactions involving intricate capital stacks consisting of senior financings, mezzanine loans, preferred equity and various tax credit incentives. Andy has extensive experience structuring and negotiating intercreditor, co-lender, and participation agreements among capital stack participants.

Over his career, Andy has played a central role in building institutional-grade real estate finance platforms, managing large portfolios of debt positions across asset classes, and directing teams responsible for underwriting, asset management and capital markets. He is known for his ability to align legal strategy with business objectives and deliver best-in-class solutions and execution for clients navigating complex real estate transactions.

Prior to joining Herrick, Andy was the Chief Legal Officer at BEB Capital, and served in successive leadership roles at Natixis, culminating as the Head of Portfolio Lending & Underwriting. Over Andy's esteemed career working in New York City law firms, he has worked on the real estate teams at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP and Kaye Scholer LLP.
