Rebecca Newman is an associate in Herrick’s Real Estate Department.
Rebecca focuses on various aspects of commercial real estate, including acquisitions, dispositions, financings, leasing and ground-up construction projects. Rebecca has experience working with both lenders and borrowers in connection with complex real estate finance transactions, including acquisition, construction and mezzanine financings and refinancings of commercial, industrial and multifamily properties. Additionally, Rebecca has experience representing investors in connection with community development projects across the country involving historic and new markets tax credits.
In addition to her transactional real estate experience, Rebecca has litigated a wide range of complex commercial disputes, both in court and through private arbitration and mediation channels. Most recently, she has represented developers in connection with RPAPL § 881 proceedings for construction access and counseled property owners in connection with disputed lease and vendor agreements.
Rebecca is also an active participant in Herrick’s pro bono initiatives and has dedicated much time to numerous advocacy projects, such as the City Bar Justice Center’s Legal Clinic for the Homeless and HerJustice’s U-Visa Project. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rebecca worked with the Legal Clinic for the Homeless, advocating for her client in need of assistance when NYCHA erroneously terminated a public housing application. Eventually, working through the challenges and delays due to the pandemic, her client’s application was reinstated.
