Chief Operating Partner Barbaros Karaahmet and partner Megan E. Thompson spoke to Law360 Pulse about Herrick's new office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The article notes, "Herrick Feinstein LLP opened an office in Pittsburgh following the recent hire of a former Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC real estate partner, marking the nearly 100-year old firm's first U.S. office outside the New York metropolitan area."

Barbaros told Law360 Pulse that the combination of an existing client base in Pittsburgh along with Megan Thompson's hire led the firm to open a physical location there.

"We're always interested in pursuing the right opportunities. If you've looked at our 95-year history, we're not one of those firms that opens offices everywhere, but Megan's decision to join us was the perfect opportunity to expand. I think all the stars were aligned and her hire was the tipping point that told us that it's a good location to expand in terms of what Herrick does." He added, "Opening offices in locations shows commitment to the local markets and the clients we have... Our clients want to see their lawyers and they want to be able to reach them. This day and age, everyone's reachable remotely, but I think that in a service business like law, it's important for clients to have lawyers in their market."

Law360 Pulse also noted, that along with Megan, who is the firm's first Pittsburgh-exclusive hire, partner Brendan Schmitt, will continue to spend time in Pittsburgh and New York going forward as he has been doing for the past number of years.

Megan told Law360 Pulse that she decided to join after having conversations with some of Herrick's New York attorneys, and that some of the factors that led to her decision to join were the firm's legal acumen along with the collegial atmosphere and its deliberate strategic planning.

"[Herrick is] strategic in making sure that the people they bring onboard are going to fit with the culture and personality of the firm, which I think makes them so successful in a client-service industry like law," she said. "Not only do they offer great client service, but they also work well internally across all the disciplinary lines to provide that service."
