The New Financial Reality for Stadiums: Sports Are Often Secondary

February 12, 2015Forbes

Daniel Etna wrote an article for Forbes titled "The New Financial Reality for Stadiums: Sports Are Often Secondary." He discussed how sports stadiums and arenas have become more than places where professional sports teams play, but function as separate entertainment hubs and business models used to create significant revenue streams for ownership. He wrote, "Stadium operators have sobered up and realized the significant and diverse revenue streams possible from a modern, technologically advanced stadium: naming rights, sponsorships, club seating and suites, premium concessions and dining, just to name a few. Across the "Big 4" professional sports leagues, modern stadiums and arenas are becoming an increasingly important bargaining chip for owners, many of whom prize dollars before wins and losses."
