The Legal 500 United States 2023 Recognizes Herrick in Four Practice Areas

Herrick, Feinstein LLP was once again recognized by The Legal 500 United States 2023 edition as a leading law firm, with rankings in Real Estate (Tier 4), Land Use/Zoning (Tier 3), Real Estate Construction (including construction litigation) (Tier 5) and Sports (Tier 4). 

Real Estate

The Legal 500 lauded Herrick's Real Estate Department noting that it "impresses with its transactional, zoning, environmental, affordable housing, public private partnerships, leasing and condominium capabilities." The publication further stated that department co-chair and the Firm's Executive Chair, Belinda G. Schwartz "is a prominent and active real estate practitioner in the New York market. She leads alongside Jonathan Adelsberg, who focuses on sales, acquisitions, large scale developments, and workouts."

Real Estate Construction & Construction Litigation

In discussing Herrick's construction and construction litigation work, The Legal 500 noted that Herrick "works with clients on the full spectrum of construction issues, including environmental, public-private partnerships, transactional and zoning mandates alongside a wide range of disputes, such as brokerage, lease, insurance coverage, and contracts." The Legal 500 stated that Litigation Department co-chair, William Fried "is a vastly experienced commercial litigator who represents clients at all stages of alternative dispute resolution," while Scott Mollen specializes in disputes concerning land use issues in New York real estate development projects. Carol Goodman, co-chair of the Litigation Department and chair of the firm's Employment practice, was also recognized as leader in the team, noted for her litigation work. The publication called Scott T. Tross, co-chair of the firm’s Real Estate Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group "a name to note."  

One client noted that the department has a "[g]reat combination of courtroom experience and technical knowledge. They know the law and understand the ins and outs of construction.’"

Another interviewee praised the team noting that the attorneys are "[v]ery accessible; down to earth; practical."

Land Use & Zoning

Herrick's Land Use & Zoning practice was also ranked by The Legal 500, noting that it is fully integrated into the firm’s long-established wider real estate department, leveraging the firm’s full-service capabilities to advise across a broad range of matters within the space, encompassing contentious and non-contentious issues. Chair of the Land Use & Zoning Group, Mitchell Korbey, has "deep experience on land use and private planning matters."  An interviewee added that Mitch "is extremely knowledgeable about land use law." The publication also noted that associate Robert Huberman "has extensive experience advising developers, property owners, architects and engineers, among others, across all aspects of land use and zoning in the city." Robert Huberman was also ranked as a Rising Star in the field.

Sports

The Legal 500 recognized Herrick's Sports Law Group highlighting that it "concentrates on a range of mandates, including corporate, real estate, tax, intellectual property, employment and litigation matters, primarily advising leagues, teams, owners, banks and investors."  The Legal 500 also recognized individual members of the group noting that "[l]eading the team are sports group co-chair Irwin Kishner, finance group co-chair Eric Stabler, corporate department chair Morris DeFeo, and Daniel Etna, who is influential in the team’s work concerning the financing, construction and development of arenas and stadiums."
