New York’s Times: At Herrick Feinstein, the past is present
Executive chair of Herrick and co-chair of the Real Estate Practice, Belinda G. Schwartz and Chief Operating Partner, Barbaros M. Karaahmet, were featured in an article in the 2024 New York Metro Super Lawyers Magazine discussing the firm's vast and storied artifact collection of historical New York objects including an IRT ticket box from 1904, a ride board from the Coney Island Steeple Chase Park, circa 1905 and the original finial that sat atop the Woolworth Building, which was, in the early part of the 20th century, the highest point in Manhattan, and thus one of the highest man-made points in the world.
The article also notes that Barbaros and Belinda's backgrounds are steeped in New York history. Barbaros, who came to New York from Türkiye, remarked on the first time he rode the elevator up to Herrick's offices. He commented, “[t]he offices are beautiful, like you would see in the movies. … And now from my office window, I see the Empire State Building. It’s fascinating to me.” Conversely, Belinda has deep roots in New York, having been born here and still living within the same four block radius on the Upper West Side.
The article further highlights that the building in which Herrick is located is also historic. It was built between 1926 and 1928 and has been designated a historic landmark since 2006. Belinda noted that "[i]t’s a nice segue for a firm like ours that has all these beautiful artifacts from other New York buildings.”
In discussing Herrick's move into new space in the building, Belinda stated that it is one of Herrick's missions "to really figure out how to best incorporate these incredible artifacts into the design of our new space.” Further, “[t]he ones we all love, the ones that really pop and that clients and visitors really care about, will be highlighted.” Barbaros emphasized that the design of the new space will highlight the collection. He further noted, “[a]ll these pieces say ‘Story: New York.’”
