Dan Etna was quoted on ESPN.com regarding a rehearing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit for a New Jersey state law that permitted sports gambling at racetracks and casinos. To reverse the previous ruling, seven of the court’s 12 judges would have to agree that New Jersey’s law that partially repealed the state’s sports betting laws complies with the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which prohibits states from authorizing, sponsoring, operating or licensing sports betting. The ruling may also impact the ongoing legal scrutiny of daily fantasy sports. "Once daily fantasy sports are deemed to be a type of gambling, then I don't know how you reconcile that with PASPA," Etna said.
