The Pittsburgh Business Times is the first to report that Herrick has opened a new office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

"We’re careful in our growth and it needs to make sense to us," said Barbaros Karaahmet, Herrick’s chief operating partner. "Pittsburgh is an area where we have enough clients now to take them to the next level with a physical presence. That’s why we pulled the trigger."

Megan Thompson has joined Herrick as a partner from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, where she was a shareholder. Her practice centers on corporate finance and financial services.

Brendan Schmitt, a real estate and development partner who joined Herrick in 2016 and is based in New York, will commute to the Pittsburgh office, Herrick said.

"From a client perspective, [Herrick has] a robust real estate and finance practice that crosses all types of lending," Megan said. "I’ve focused my practice on large, institutional bank clients and, while I continue to do that, Herrick represents a wide variety of lenders including nonbanks and nontraditional lenders which I felt was a big growth opportunity for me to expand my client base."
