Writers of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” Get It On Against Ed Sheeran

Read Barry Werbin’s latest blog published by the Entertainment, Arts &Sports Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, discussing a copyright infringement case recently filed in the Southern District of New York by the heirs of Ed Townsend, one of the two songwriters of the great R&B classic "Let's Get It On," made famous by Marvin Gaye who co-wrote the song with Townsend.   The report examines the various claims asserted in the suit against UK pop singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran and others over Sheeran's 2014 hit recording "Thinking Out Loud,” which allegedly copied key melodic and harmonic elements of “Let’s Get It On.”
