The Veil May be Lifting: What the Art Market Needs to Know About Current and Upcoming Disclosure and other Regulatory Requirements

November 12, 2021
Virtual Conference

Howard N. Spiegler and Victor J. Rocco spoke at the 2021 Art Law Day program by the Appraisers Association of America. The panel, entitled "The Veil May be Lifting: What the Art Market Needs to Know About Current and Upcoming Disclosure and other Regulatory Requirements," analyzed what regulations exist in the art market and which ones are likely just around the corner, and what best practices need to be in place when doing business in the art market. Historically, in the U.S. beginning with the antiquities trade, regulators have their eyes trained on the art market to prevent money-laundering and other criminal conduct. Regulators in Europe have imposed similar requirements as well. Victor was joined by Sandrine Giroud (Partner, Lalive SA) and Rena Neville Esq. (Director, Corinth Consulting). Howard moderated the panel and is also on 2021 Art Law Day Committee.
