September 30, 2015
Herrick, Feinstein LLP

Moderated by Jane Morris, Editor of The Art Newspaper, panelists discussed the reasons why collectors loan artworks and the challenges that they may face in the process. Lawrence Kaye was a panelist along with Vivian Ebersman, Director of Art Expertise, AXA Art Americas; Fionn Meade, Artistic Director, Walker Art Center and Kara Vander Weg, Director, Gagosian Gallery. Topics of discussion were: issues of restitution and immunity from seizure; government indemnity versus commercial insurance; risks and benefits for collectors lending artworks; lending to museums and nonprofits versus lending to commercial galleries; insurance and shipping requirements for loans; issues that arise when artworks cross borders. This was the final of Herrick and The Art Newspaper's 3-part series of thought-provoking events on the intersection of art, business and law in 2015.
