Louis A. Evans is counsel in Herrick's Real Estate Department. He brings 30 years of experience in environmental law to his practice, which focuses on environmental issues in connection with development and redevelopment projects, real estate management and remediation of contaminated properties. Lou also advises clients with regard to environmental issues in  corporate, financial and real estate transactions.

Lou helps Herrick's clients assess risks, negotiate environmental terms and commitments, secure environmental site assessments and insurance, and comply with environmental regulations. He represents clients in front of federal, state and local regulatory agencies in connection with brownfield, remediation, Superfund, and permitting issues and in the defense of environmental violations. He also acts as environmental counsel to various developers, financers and property owners.

Lou served as an attorney with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the Environmental Enforcement Division, where he was responsible for enforcing New York State's solid and hazardous waste management laws and Superfund law. On several occasions, Lou was appointed special assistant attorney general in environmental criminal prosecutions. He also served as director of the Division's Eastern Field Unit, overseeing the Department's enforcement program in New York City, Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley.

Prior to joining Herrick, Lou was counsel at Thacher Proffitt where he was co-chair of the firm's environmental practice.
