Richard Bass is a licensed professional planner with over 32 years of development and planning experience. He is recognized in the New York/New Jersey region and the State of Florida for his expertise in community and economic development, comprehensive and strategic planning, zoning and affordable housing. He has been involved with large-scale residential, commercial and retail developments, accomplished economic retention/relocation projects, and worked in Baltimore's and Harlem's Empowerment Zones. Richard started his career in Jerusalem planning new towns for the State of Israel.
Richard has a Masters of Urban Planning from Hunter College and an undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida. He is a professionally licensed planner in New Jersey and is an American Institute Certified Planner (AICP). He is an adjunct professor at Hunter College and previously taught at Columbia University for seven years. Richard led a group of students who produced a Master Plan for Bat Yam, Israel, which is currently being implemented.
Richard is the former Planning Director of the Manhattan Borough President's Office, Jersey City and the City of Coral Gables. He joined Herrick as a Senior Real Estate Analyst in January 2000, after working in the office of Stadtmauer Bailkin LLP as a Project Associate. Richard is a frequent speaker concerning planning, development and community empowerment. He is married and has three children.
Richard is co-author of Herrick's land use and environmental blog, ZONE, which keeps readers up-to-date on the latest issues in land use and environmental law.
