Law Students

Come for a Summer, Stay for Your Career.

At Herrick, we strive to provide a challenging, dynamic and enjoyable experience for our summer associates. It is our goal to present a realistic snapshot of life as a junior associate. We offer a balance of challenging assignments and social events designed to maximize the interaction between our summer associates and our attorneys in both business and informal settings.

Summer associates often have significant responsibilities on projects and have the opportunity to attend hearings, depositions, closings and client meetings.

Our Program
Our summer associate program hosts law students with a strong work ethic who are striving to find a home rather than just a first job. Herrick's summer associates are generally in the top of their class and have a demonstrated ability in legal analysis and writing through participation on Law Review, journals, moot court or similar activities.

The Assignment Process
Our summer associates are able to experience all practice areas and can also focus on one or more specific areas of practice. Assignments are delegated according to both the needs of the firm and the practice area interests of each summer associate. By the end of the summer, it is our hope that all summer associates will have gained a better understanding of the different practice areas at Herrick, and will be well-positioned to make informed decisions as to their practice area of choice. Evaluation forms will be collected upon completion of each work assignment. We strive to provide feedback continuously throughout the course of the summer.

Summer Mentors
We assign a partner mentor and an associate mentor to each summer associate. These mentors enhance their summer associates' experience at the firm, offering guidance on both a professional and social level.

Summer Events
Over the course of the summer, we host social events designed to give summer associates the opportunity to get to know as many of our attorneys as possible on a more informal basis. Past events have included Yankees games, bowling, cocktail receptions, ping pong parties and cooking classes.

Law Firm Replaces On-Campus Interviews

“…one law firm has taken the model to the next level and shifted its traditional on-campus interviewing more toward the speed dating model. [Herrick] is taking a chance on a new approach, and in this industry that sort of bold thinking is a rarity worth encouraging.” -- Above the Law
